A proclamation, a toy drive, and a county that said thank you

In December 2024, Contra Costa County recognized Universal Events with a formal proclamation for our work in the community.
That kind of recognition is not something you plan for. You plan for the work. The recognition, when it comes, is a measure of whether the work has been visible and consistent enough that the people watching have taken note.
The toy drive that preceded the proclamation had been a collaboration across several partners and a lot of hours of logistics by people who were not looking for recognition. That is typically how this kind of thing goes. The public moment at the end represents a private effort that most people never see.
What community work actually is
Community work at its best is cumulative. It is not one event or one campaign or one drive. It is the accumulated evidence, year over year, that an organization is oriented toward the community it operates in and not just the clients it invoices. That orientation is either present or it is not. When it is present consistently, communities eventually name it.
We are grateful for Contra Costa County's recognition. We are more grateful for the families who received toys that season and the partners who made it possible.
